About Me
I am a York-based writer, photographer and musician and have published three well-received poetry collections, most recently The Illuminated Dreamer (Oversteps, 2010), as well as having been published in numerous international journals and anthologies. I have a particular interest in the way the past resonates in the present, so York, with its layers of history, is the perfect place to live.

Over the past year or so, I have read in venues from Glastonbury to Chicago and have worked with other writers, musicians and film makers for performances from London’s South Bank Centre to Perth (Australia). Current projects include explorations of folklore with Sixpenny Wayke (folk duo) and A Tiding of Magpies (ambient electro-acoustic), both of which are featured on the CD Hail be you sovereigns, lief and dear (Cold Spring, 2012).

By day, I am Professor of English at Leeds Trinity University, where I am Programme Leader for English and Writing and also run a number of literature events. My most recent academic publication is English Medieval Misericords: The Margins of Meaning (Boydell, 2011).

In my spare time, I write reviews and features, mainly on folk music, for R2 magazine.
