About Me
I was born in York and am now a full-time playwright.

Playwriting was an accident! Before becoming a writer, my earlier career as a Chartered Civil Engineer took me as far afield as the Middle East and eventually led to me becoming Head of Civil Engineering at a UK university.

My first play was published in 1990 and since then I have written eleven comedies, a psychological thriller and a one-act comedy. Ten of these have been published and performed world-wide. They are available for performance through the play catalogue of Josef Weinberger Ltd.

My ‘Inspector Pratt’ trilogy – spoofs of the Agatha Christie genre of whodunnits – have been described as “deliciously wicked” and “hilarious and very clever”. Collectively, ‘Murdered to Death’, ‘Secondary Cause of Death’ and ‘Death by Fatal Murder’ have had over one thousand professional and amateur tours/productions in the UK and overseas, including USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

Of my modern comedies, it has been said that “Peter Gordon writes about life. Sometimes it is bizarre and funny, sometimes it is sad, but it is always entertaining”. My personal favourites include ‘Par for the Course’, ‘The Reunion’, ‘Out of Focus’ and ‘Third Week in August,’ which has been performed at the world-famous Minack Theatre in Cornwall.

My most recent play is a new comedy based around a long-distance walk – working title ‘Walk the Walk’. I have several other ongoing projects, including a musical adaptation of Generations Apart.

In 2010 I formed Piggyback Theatre Company, a not-for-profit theatre project which aims to perform new work in aid of local charities.

Being a true Yorkshireman, I have always returned to my roots and now live in York with my wife, Janice. In addition to writing, I have an interest in music and consider myself to be a competent drummer but a less-than-adequate guitarist. I am trying to keep my ukulele playing a secret from my friends!
