About Me
Although I was born in the UK I grew up in Canada where I did most of my schooling, before returning to England for university. Living in Canada gave me a taste for the great outdoors and I still spend as much time as possible travelling, ideally off the beaten track. I studied archaeology as an undergraduate and postgraduate, and then worked as an archaeologist in York for 30 years, so I find the past a very compelling place. I have recently given up work to go freelance, hoping to write more (fiction and non-fiction) and to explore new directions. I’ve picked up old contacts with an expedition travel company and have some exciting plans for the future, and hopefully some inspiration for new plots.

I write general fiction, and enjoying exploring the effect of landscape on my characters – Bhalla Strand is set in the Outer Hebrides and my current project involves the Scottish Borders and northern Canada – all places I know well.

I am represented by Jenny Brown at Jenny Brown Associates and my first novel Bhalla Strand was published in March 2104 by Freight Books, Glasgow.

A body uncovered in the foundations of a remote Hebridean house links their lives together.
Reviews:
‘There is an echo of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca in Sarah Maine’s highly readable debut.’ The Independent
This might be the author’s fifth or sixth novel, not her first. A literary star is born!’ Ronald Frame, author of The Lantern Bearers and Havisham
I predict great things for Sarah Maine.’ The Bookbag
